We left for our trip early Thursday morning. Rick's dad drove us to the Salt Lake airport at 5:00 a.m. and our flight to Chicago left at 7:00 a.m. Our days, weeks and even months leading up to our trip were the most hectic of our lives, so we considered it a true miracle to be on our way to Italy. There were some of us (I think maybe only me) that thought it might never really happen. But, here we are in the airport, ready to check in.
The kids were excited to reach Chicago. They recognized the decorations from Home Alone. We were hoping we didn't leave anyone behind on this trip.
Our layover was a few hours long, thank heavens for modern entertainment.
The kids were so excited to see our plane, Alitalia, pull up to our gate!
We boarded our plane and headed off to Rome.
After drinking all the blood orange juice possible, the kids were drugged up and we slept most of the flight (Rome was 8 hours later so we had to try and adjust to the time there).

I love how you wrote, "We boarded our plane and headed off to Rome" kind of like, ho-hum, yeah, we do this every day . . .
I feel like we own a piece of the Chicago airport since we flew out of there sooooo many times for 16 years. The United terminal is cool but a little freakish.
I can't wait to see the next batch of pictures from your awesome adventure!
