While in Chicago, we went to the Shedd Aquarium. It is one of the best aquariums anywhere in the world. It was almost like Sea World at times.
Seeing the Beluga whales was definitely one of the highlights of our visit. We were able to see a calf with her mother. The calf's name is Miki (which means "little" in the Inuit language). She was born back in August of 2007. She is still grey, apparently they turn white gradually as they grow up. They brought the mom & baby out during their show, along with the dolphins. The show was held at the amphitheater with huge windows looking out at Lake Michigan. Those whales & dolphins have a beautiful view!
This picture of the mom and baby was taken from the Shedd's website, as most of my indoor shots didn't work out. They have a great site that is a fun one to visit, especially for the kids. It is http://www.sheddaquarium.org.
We saw this really cool sea dragon, it is related to the sea horse...really beautiful! The kids loved the penguins and so did I. Your kids (and you) might like the video of a penguin chick at the following link: http://www.sheddaquarium.org/Meet_a_Gentoo_Chick.html. I could really watch them all day long.
Nathan loved the Komono Dragon! When we were there it opened his mouth and gave out a super big yawn! Nathan thought that was the funniest. I got a picture on my camera phone and might figure out how to post it someday, but here is a picture of the Komono Dragon from their website. Nathan also loved all of the snakes there (sorry Baba).
